Cooperative marketingHume use images of parklands as part of their "Part of your life" campaign Community ActivitiesGreening Albury Wodonga & Carbon OffsettingHume Board and staff members have been involved a a number of tree planting activities. To celebrate World Environment Day 2004, over 40 members and family of Hume planted 600 plants on the gateway Island. This has led to Hume becoming the inaugural member of parklands new Carbon Offsetting program. Hume staff and family have planted 100 plants (15 trees and 85 mixed understorey) per vehicle in their fleet every winter since 2004. The 15 trees offset the carbon emissions, whilst the understorey add a more balanced planting, therefore providing habitat. Clean Up Australia Day & environmental burnsHume staff attended Clean Up Australia Day 2004, cleaning up the Gateway Island of rubbish. Hume also donated funds to retrofit a trailer as a 900 litre water truck for tree maintenance and fire fighting. With three consecutive years of drought, the water trailer has had signficant usage maintaining revegetation sites. The water truck assists the local CFA during the fire restriction season as well as enabling environmental burns at other times of the year. parklands Ranger, Ms Ant Packer, said that "we are excited to have Hume as a partner in establishing the most magnificent regional parklands in Australia. The link between parklands and Hume has synergy in Hume's slogan "Part of your Life" when you consider all the benefits that result from parkland environments in terms of social, health, lifestyle and economic benefits. We are pleased to be able to facilitate the whole of the Hume Building Society into the activities, which adds additional social and health benefits for the company."
