Parks Forum
The Parks Forum was established in May 2004 and is the peak body for the Australian and New Zealand parks industries. Parks Forum members work to enhance and increase the significant range of environmental, social and economic benefits to the community that parks provide.
OBJECTIVES
The Parks Forum seeks to:
- ensure the protection of parks, improved management of the natural environment and to increase benefits for the community through a unified parks industry;
- improve management, protection, understanding, appreciation and use of parks and the natural environment through best practice, innovation, industry standards and benchmarking;
- provide a forum for members to share information, experience and expertise, and
- enhance the community's understanding of the natural environment, its enjoyment of parks and the role and importance of parks.
ACTIVITIES
The Parks Forum will collaborate with members, other associations, organisations and institutes to:
- develop and promulgate industry standards;
- monitor industry performance and provide national and international benchmarking services to members;
- undertake research on the scale and impact of the industry;
- undertake research that supports best practice in the industry;
- provide advice on behalf of the parks industry to government and key organisations;
- represent the industry on task groups and forums;
- foster links with key international park agencies and other appropriate bodies;
- keep member agencies informed about relevant topics;
- organise Best Practice Conferences;
- provide forums to promote a strong parks industry presence in the wider community;
- promote the views and values of the industry to the community, and
- auspice and collaborate with members on special projects.
Parklands membership allows staff to network with other park organisations both nationally and internationally through conferences, workshops and networking, to share and apply international best practice for the management and development of the regional parklands.
