Murray Half Marathon and Charity Fun Run

Charity Fun Run / Walk and Half Marathon

Parklands Albury Wodonga Ltd presents the

Murray River Challenge
Sunday 25 March 2012

We invite the regional community and regional businesses to donn their running shoes. The recipients of this Charity Fun Run are the Border Trust www.bordertrust.org.au and the regional parklands. Tax deductible receipts available for donations greater than the $10 entry fee.

This unique Charity Fun Run and Half Marathon follows the banks of the Murray River and it's tributaries through regional parklands and private water frontages generally not accessible to the public. A bush experience for bush businesses and a great way to go bush and have fun with friends, team mates and family whilst fundraising for the bush community. An ideal training event for the much steeper annual Nail Can Hill Run.

Options

1) 11.2 km Charity Fun Run ($10 entry up to 5pm Sat 24 March or $20 on the day):

Runners start at 10.00 am  Walkers start at 10.15 am

Starting at Kiewa River car park on the Murray Valley Highway, Killara, 10km's west of Wodonga CBD.  The course runs along the banks of the Kiewa & Murray Rivers as well as Wodonga Creek.  The course mainly consists of a dirt track which can be uneven in places and a slashed vegetated surface. The final stage follows the paved Wodonga Creek bicycle path which will also have slashed edges.

Please take care along the first 1km of the fun run as there are a few slippery areas (which have been marked) where the track has been inundated by floodwaters for the past few weeks.

Drink stations and First Aid will be every 2.5 km's along the course. Bring a full water bottle and top up along the way if required.

2) 21.1km Half Marathon ($20 entry up to 5pm Sat 24 March or $40 on the day):

Runners start at 10.00 am

Participants continue on from the end of the fun run course, heading west over House Creek bridge, along the old Stock Route (the new bike path from the new Wodonga railway station) and then Carrolls Lane.  Both are dirt surfaces, except for 200 metres of freshly laid bitumen. Participants are requested to stay on the far right of the road not more than two abreast as these roads will still be open to local traffic.  The track then follows along the banks of Carolls Creek to the junction with the Murray River, initially on a farm track and then a slashed, vegetated surface.  Return from this magnificent end point to Carolls Lane then head east along the banks of Wodonga Creek on a slashed, vegetated surface.  The course then heads back to finish near Belvoir Park

3) Corporate Team Challenge ($100 entry per person for team of up to 4 people):

Organise your workplace, club or organisation into a team and enter the Corporate Challenge. The team that fundraises the most will be profiled in the Border Mail and become the founding recipients of the Murray Challenge Corporate Cup. A great networking opportunity as your corporate team rivals your competitors and other teams from your workplace on a level playing field!?

4) Volunteer:

Want to be involved but unable to participate in the fun run this year? We are looking for marshalls for registrations at the start and finish and water points along the course.

5) Sponsor:

Thank you to City of Wodonga and North East Water for their sponsorship of this community event.  We welcome sponsors keen to promote their product or service to the regional community.  We are appreciative of all efforts to distribute posters promoting this fun run.  Refer below attachment.

Facilities

Toilet facilities are available 1km away at nearby Belvoir Park / Sumsion Gardens for use prior to and after the event. Portable toilets will be provided at the start of the event at Killara.

We encourage participants to park at the Finish of the event in the area adjacent to the Stocky's bridge on Wodonga Creek.  Courtesy buses will transport participants to the Start of the fun event leaving at 8.45am and 9.15am from the corner of Reuss Road and Dick Street, not far west of the Doggies Park in Belvoir Park / Sumsion Gardens.

Support your community by purchasing a BBQ lunch or refreshments at Wodonga Creek at the end of the Charity Fun Run.
