Accessing the Kiewa

parklands Lower Kiewa project aims to establish, revegetation and stabilise a riparian corridor on either side of the Kiewa River, from its junction with the Murray River up stream to Yackandandah Creek.

The corridor will generally be between 50 and 100 metres wide. It will be fenced, have off river and selected stock watering points, and vegetation regeneration through planting and the encouragement of native growth.

This exciting project has its challenges.

There has been significant discussion between the project steering committee and neighbors regarding lease arrangements, the width of the proposed riparian corridor, ongoing maintenance issues, public access and loss of grazing land.

Delays have resulted from debate over suitable fence types for this flood-prone region. parklands is keen to amicably resolve these issues before proceeding.

Work is under way in areas where concerns do not exist.

Meanwhile the Rotary Club of Wodonga, under the guidance of Rotarian Pat Nally, has started work on the Kiewa River Walking Trail.

This new access facility will extend some 1.5 km downstream from the Murray Valley Highway to the foot of Huon Hill.
