Now for a regional rail trail!

Now for a regional rail trail!

The first 24 km section of the Wodonga to Cugewa rail line, from Wodonga to Huon Lane, was opened in 1899, closed in 1983 and later dismantled.

Now parklands is being offered the opportunity to convert the disused line to a rail trail and is acting as Committee of Management for the project.

The old Bonegilla railway station crumbled and overgrown, is being refurbished. Assisted by local residents, Community Development Employment Project participants, Community Service Order participants and other volunteers, a Rail Trail Subcommittee is restoring the station to its original condition.

Future work will focus on a recreation trail, from the Kiewa River to Ebden, Ludlows and Huon reserves. It will be suitable for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
