A group of nine volunteers from the Australian Trust for Conservation Volunteers (ATCV), Australia's largest practical conservation organisation, worked on conservation projects in Albury's Black Range in February.

Here for a seven-day project (two days for travelling, five for working) the group was the fourth from ATCV to visit Albury-Wodonga in the past 12 months.

Most of the group were overseas "gap" students who take a year out between completing secondary school and starting university.

Earlier ATCV projects have included track construction and St Johns Wort removal at McFarlanes Hill; willow poisoning at Gateway Island; and woody weed removal at Padman Park, Albury.

Other tasks included fence construction, style and sign installation and revegetation. Says ATCV team leader Travis Scicchitano: "ATCV is a national, non-profit organisation offering an extraordinary range of projects for conservation-minded volunteers.

"We welcome inquiry from people of all ages in the Albury-Wodonga area." parklands and ATCV are keen to recruit more Albury Wodonga region volunteers wishing to do their part for the environment and the local community.
