Riverina Institute of TAFE design database
TAFE students from Riverina TAFE Albury recently completed a project involving the development of databases and information technology as part of their courses. The databases included Risk Management designed by Michale Cindric, Land Licencing by Rod Richards and a Staff Management database by Brendon Rofe. A networked computer system was designed by Pet Toumagen and Simon Maginnity. The Risk Management will allow parklands to record risks identified onto a matrix system, which allocates a priority rating. The risk information will be collected by staff and volunteers. If the public identify any risks, they can contact any staff member who will then arrange an inspection. The land licence database will assist parklands in the management of all land licences under its control. The land is leased to farmers and the resulting fees are then used for many of the projects that we are undertaking. The networking of the computers has allowed the staff to work at any workstation, reduce the required printers from four to one and allow the easier transfer of information. In the past, information was printed, now it can be simply transferred to a shared folder for editing or viewing. As part of the project, the students undertook a consultancy role in order to gain ‘hands on’ and real life experience. Their projects were presented to both to parklands Board and staff. The course coordinator, Ms Gail Farran said work-based projects with industry partners involved developing a service level agreement and provided a community service. |
