Schools busy in the parklands
Schools busy in the parklands Schools have been busy with parklands in recent months. Over 100 Grade 5 Wodonga West PS students celebrated this years’ World Environment Day by tree planting and playing environmental games on Gateway Island. Over 500 plants were planted along the dual-use pathway near the train bridge. parklands Dungalar Community Development Employment Program (CDEP) crew, Riverina TAFE National Environment Centre students and Regional Skills – Work for the Dole helped to make the day a rewarding experience for all. Gateway Village sponsored lunch, which was held alongside the wetlands at the rear of the Village. Local businesses such as Sunicrust, Arnold’s Wholesale Market donated food which was greatly appreciated. PlanetArk National Schools Tree Day resulted in a number of schools participating at three sites. At Baranduda, over 200 Baranduda PS students descended on the Baranduda Parklands Estate planting mostly understorey species, with their work to benefit the Baranduda community for generations to come. Around 50 students Murray High School undertook tree planting along the Eight Mile Creek near the Kinross Woolshed, Thurgoona, planting over 400 plants, which were mainly understorey species. Victory Primary School planted at McFarlanes Hill in West Wodonga.
