Did you know that…

parklands is currently working in partnership with Baranduda Landcare Group in constructing and installing nesting boxes for the Tuan or Brushtail Phascogale, Phascogale tapoatafa. Currently, small populations of this endangered species are found along the Wodonga-Yackandandah Road at Baranduda. The Tuan is a small, arboreal, carnivorous mammal that is a member of the same family as Tasmanian Devils. They feed on insects, small mammals and birds.

Tuan’s make nest’s lined with leaves or shredded bark in hollows of standing trees or stumps. Unlike most marsupials, they do not have a pouch, but an area of soft hairy tissue around the nipples.

The males expend so much energy looking for mates, that they die at the end of their first breeding season. The Baranduda Green Corps team constructed over 40 nest boxes with Baranduda Primary School students. The nest boxes will be installed in mature Eucalypts.
