Partnership with Hume Building Society

parklands has been working in partnership with the Hume Building Society on a range of projects.  In October 2003, Hume and parklands launched the publication “From rivers to rolling hills – regional parkland of Albury and Wodonga”.

The booklet is a 24 page full color publication focusing on the Albury Wodonga Regional Parklands and was launched by Mr Ulf Ericson, Chairman of the Hume Building Society.

Hume identified the sponsorship of the booklet “From rivers to rolling hills” as a unique opportunity.

Mr Erison commented that “We are delighted to be associated with parklands Albury Wodonga, who are a not for profit organisation, undertaking wonderful environmental and recreational based projects for the benefit of the Albury Wodonga region.

At Hume, we take pride in being part of the community and believe that this booklet will showcase our natural environment as a community asset for everyone to enjoy”.

The Hume staff and families participated in Clean Up Australia Day on Gateway Island in 2004 and 2005.  In June 2004, over 40 staff and family members of the Society planted over 500 plants to celebrate World Environment Day.

In 2005, Hume became the inaugural member of parklands new carbon offsetting program.

Hume will be planting 700 plants on Gateway Island to offset the carbon emissions of their fleet.  Hume chose to take up the Woodland option of the program to provide a more balanced revegetation project.  In addition to the 17 trees required to take up the emissions, Hume will be planting a further 85 understorey plants per vehicle.

One of the important aspects that attracted Hume with their involvement in the program is the ability of the regional parklands to creat an amphitheatre effect for Albury Wodonga.

In effect, the regional parklands have become the “lungs” of the cities.  As such, they are using the “lungs” to take up the carbon emissions.

parklands is excited to have Hume as a partner in establishing the most magnificent lifestyle in the region through the development of the regional parklands.  The link between parklands and Hume has synergy in Hume’s slogan “Part of your Life” when you consider all the benefits that result from parkland environments in terms of social, health, lifestyle and economic benefits.
