Swainsona Reserve

Swainsona Reserve is still undergoing vigorous regeneration as a result of the 2002 fires with many over storey and understorey species showing healthy growth. After an initial invasion of weed grass species such as wild oats there has been an increase in native grasses, especially Wallaby Grasses, which is creating a great natural bush setting for bush walkers.

On ground work carried out recently includes:

  • Planting of 80 Swainsona Pea for Threatened Species Day (a collaboration between parklands National Environment Centre and the Department of Sustainability and Environment)
  • Upgrading of tracks, carparks, fences and removal of dead limbs
  • The start of a Paterson’s Curse removal program in the reserve
  • Involvement of the 2004 Green Corps team in starting a seed bank of Swainsona and McFarlanes Hill reserve
