AlburyCity Releases Murray River Experience - Draft Master Plan

AlburyCity Releases Murray River Experience - Draft Master Plan

The Murray River is one of Australia’s icons - it links the mountains to the sea across three states and plays a vital role in the environment, culture, heritage, economy and lifestyle of much of south eastern Australia. Generations have been touched by the river’s magic, history and tales of heroism and hardship.

Albury is the first major city on the Murray’s meandering path to the Southern Ocean. But rather than the core of the community’s identity, the Murray River at Albury has been a mere backdrop. AlburyCity is now renewing its focus on the River and Lake Hume through the creation of a 25 year Murray River Experience Master Plan. The draft plan recommends a range of initiatives to achieve the following aims;

  • Strengthening the relationship between the community and the Murray River.
  • Protecting the health of the river with improved water quality and vegetation management.
  • Greater opportunities to interact and embrace the city’s waterfront.
  • Recognition of our history and Indigenous communities’ connection with the river.
  • Creating a spectacular entrance boulevard where city and river meet.
  • Our open space areas feature quality facilities.
