Workways makes working enjoyable
Parklands Albury Wodonga has been the lucky recipient of a Workways Foundation grant to purchase two new brushcutters. parklands has worked with a diversity of job seekers over the past decade through a mix of employment programs and volunteering. We look forward to developing stronger links with Workways, which is a not-for-profit Job Network provider. The brushcutters will enable volunteers to maintain over 70km's of recreational tracks, prepare tree planting sites, control invasive weed species and assist with fire break work in spring. The benefits to the wider community are in increased public safety and amenity. The benefit to volunteers is a significant reduction in frustration by having access to reliable, industrial strength brush-cutters. Parklands has a limited number of old brush-cutters which limits the number of volunteers who are able to be involved in this popular volunteering activity for many of our younger volunteers, who sometimes come with a range of mental health issues, disabilities, via the criminal justice system or are volunteering whilst seeking employment. The skills and experience gained from safely using and maintaining small engines, such as these two stroke brushcutters, give these youths the skills that are transferable to other workplaces.
