Become a Murray River Mate

On Sunday 31 May, Parklands Albury Wodonga hosted a Murray River Field Day, starting at 10am at parklands offices, 138 Lemke Road, Gateway Island.  Interested community members discovered some of the Murray River crown water frontages where bush restoration and walking track works have commenced.

parklands is seeking expressions of interest from community members who are passionate about the Murray River to become a part of a ‘Friends of the Murray River Group‘.  The group's main goal will be the development of a bush reserve and walking track system along the Murray River from Lake Hume to West Wodonga and beyond.

This project is being assisted by grants from Fosters and the Department of Sustainability and Environment's Stewardship in Action program.

We are looking for community members to drive development and are offering community leadership training through this process.   In recognition of the value of strong community ownership, this new Friends Group will have support from experienced Community Facilitator Consultants as well as parklands Rangers with community capacity building skills training in areas such as strategic planning, public speaking and networking.

A few projects will be evolving over the coming months.  Recently a CVGT Greencorp team commenced work on a six months “Murray River Restoration project”.  These nine youths have been working along the water frontages to establish some of this walking track network.
