National Tree Day 2009

National Tree Day is an opportunity for all Australians to take a positive and active role in helping protect our environment. By planting native trees and shrubs, we can help to combat climate change, provide food and shelter for our wildlife and beautify our surrounding.  In 2008 over 300,000 volunteers planted 1.2 million native trees and shrubs at 3,500 sites around the country.

Over the winter months Parklands Albury Wodonga will be planting in excess of 33,000 seedlings alongside workplaces, community groups, primary, secondary and tertiary students, and many volunteers.  We operate on the philosphy of lots of people all doing a little, adds up.  Join us for a few hours over the winter!

National Schools Tree Day is on Friday 31 July 2009.  Parklands Albury Wodonga will join with Albury City Council, Wewak School, West Albury Public School and Albury Wodonga Home Schools to plant at Patricia Gould Park, West Wodonga and Mungabareena.  Baranduda Landcare Group will join with local Baranduda schools planting in the Baranduda area.

On Sunday 3 August 2009, there are three main Parklands Albury Wodonga National Tree Day sites;

Federation Hill Parklands in West Wodonga

We will be revegetating a major wildlife corridor to create threatened species habitat.  Meet at 10am at the roundabout on Ballara Drive near Cains Court.  If you are late, follow the National Tree Day posters for 500 metres up the fire trail (10 minutes walking) and join us.

Padman Park in West Albury

Join Friends of Padman Park planting along the Day Street boundary near the playground area.  Meet at 10am at the Day Street carpark (corner of Padman Drive and Day Street).  If you are late, walk west from the Day St carpark along Murray Vista track and you will find us.
