Friends of the Rail Trail
“History/Heritage Ride 2010” Sunday 15th August 2010
REGISTRATION: 10:00am at the Picnic Shelter, just inside entry to Gaza Ridge Barracks, Anzac Parade Bandiana.
On this ride we will explore some of the significant features and tourist attractions on and adjoining the Rail Trail.
Before setting off on our ride we will visit the nearby Army Museum. Entry to Museum is $5pp or $2 if more than 10 participants. Also identification – driver's licence is needed to enter the Army Base.
We will then proceed on the Rail Trail link to the Kiewa River and Bonegilla Station. We will stop off at the Bonegilla Hall for a short break to enjoy our snack or light lunch while we view the many photos on display. Tea and coffee will be provided.
Then we will continue onto Block 19 - The Bonegilla Migrant Centre (this short section of the ride will be on road) to discover many amazing stories of our migrant settlers before returning at your leisure to the start of our ride. Entry to current exhibitions on display at Block 19 is a gold coin donation.
Complete the mystery quiz along the way to receive a prize.
Picnic and BBQ facilities are available at the Picnic Shelter in Anzac Parade for anyone wishing to use them at the end of their ride.
WHAT TO BRING: A picnic lunch/snack in a backpack.
DISTANCE: approx 25 km return.
