What are our core activities?

Our core focus throughout the year has been maintenance works across 3,350 hectares of public land.

How can I help?

Support comes in differnet ways. We are equally grateful for sponsorship support; and to those who come out and do work in the field. Community support comes from involvement in things like the "Leadership Program" where locals can have a say in the management of Murray River Parklands. Friends groups are a great way to get involved.

  • Sponsorship support
  • Leadership Program - community input
  • Friends groups activities
  • Field work volunteering

Where does my sponsorship money go?

Sponsorship has allowed us to complete the following:

  • Broadleaf & blackberry spraying (50 km of river frontage plus steep hill country)
  • Slashing 70km’s of track verges & firebreaks
  • 150km’s of fence & lock repairs (due to hungry stock & unauthorised trail bikes)
  • Woody weeds (primary & follow-up work)
  • Rabbit fumigation
  • Maintainance of 70km of walking tracks
  • Address risk management issues

Do we have any additional projects?

Yes, with additional sponsorship we were able to achieve the following projects.

  • Construct 5km new fences
  • Clear 55 hectares of woody weeds
  • Establish 5km new rail trail track between Gateway Island and Huon Hill along the Murray River
  • Upgrade 2km of rail trail track
  • Construct 1km of boardwalk along the Kiewa River
  • Install a bird hide on Gateway Island
  • Fabricate and install 8 park seats
  • Install 100 nesting boxes
  • Plant 34,000 seedlings in the 2008 planting season
  • Build an interpretive shelter and install 15 flagpoles
  • Restore 5 Heritage Buildings at Bonegilla

Can I volunteer?

Yes. We have people volunteer in many projects throughout the year. There are a wide range of activities to choose from. All levels of capability are catered for. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to have a go. Volunteer work can be used as student placement hours, or for work experience opportunities.
