Gateway Island

Beautifying Gateway Island

For many years, Gateway Island, lying between Albury and Wodonga has been considered an eyesore.

The initial work involved the clearing of the banks of the Murray River of willows, blackberries and other weeds, to be replaced by indigenous plants. A Master Plan has been developed by the City of Wodonga which, when implemented, will create opportunities for a range of visitor experiences based on separate precincts.

Groups Involved

Gateway Island
The Rotary Club of Albury North is assisting in the development of a wetland education trail. The bird hides will be relocated, floating pontoon bridges constructed, tracks formed and the area revegetated.

Details of the plan can be obtained from the Wodonga City Council.  Information on this project can be obtained through parklands on (02) 60 236714 or Email carlson@parklands-alburywodonga.org.au
