Developing a Major Recreational Park at Huon Hill
Huon Hill is destined to become one of parklands' most popular and spectacular visitor destinations. On the eastern outskirts of Wodonga and bounded by the Murray and Kiewa Rivers, Huon Hill, standing at 426m above sea level, affords 360 degree views of stunning panoramas.
From this point, there are views over Albury-Wodonga, Lake Hume, Mt. Bogong, Mt. Feathertop, the Kiewa Valley, Bonegilla, Baranduda Range, Table Top Mountain and the Murray Valley towards Corowa.
The area preserved for Parklands covers 300ha.
Development Works
The works and development program for this exciting recreation asset has included:
- Road upgrading and sealing, by-pass lanes and car parking;
- Composting toilets;
- Barbecue and shelter facilities;
- Lookout platforms; and
- Walking tracks, signage and interpretation.
The Albury-Wodonga Development Corporation has already undertaken some revegetation on the slope and gully lines.
Funding

| The initial funding of $50,000 for the project was obtained through Business Victoria via the Victorian Government's Community Support Fund. parklands, Wodonga City Council, and the Rotary Clubs of Wodonga West, Wodonga and Belvoir/Wodonga have combined to contribute an additional $25,000 in cash and a similar amount of 'in kind' support.
Other Groups Involved
The National Industrial Skills Training Centre, a Business arm of Wodonga TAFE, undertook road widening and safety works on November 2001. The works were undertaken as part of a nationally accredited Civil Construction Course that focused on heavy machinery. The project gave participants a genuine work environment, and under the guidance of skilled staff, they benefited from 'hands on - live work' which is invaluable for future employment prospects.
Inquiries from volunteers wishing to join with the partnering organisations will be welcomed through parklands on (02) 60236714 or Email berry@parklands-alburywodonga.org.au
