10 Oct 2011 - Kiewa Wetland Restoration

The 5,000th native wetland grass was planted into weed mat rolls near the Killara carpark at Kiewa Parklands.

Thank you to Fisheries Victoria for funding this "Justice for the Environment" Adopt A Stream project, which has being implemented in partnership with the Department of Justice staff and clients.

Fallen timber will be installed into two section of eroded river bank when the ground is sufficiently dry for an excavator to access the site.  The other component of this project is tackling the invasive exotic grasses (Passpalum and Phalaris) by spraying, weed matting and revegetating with native species.   This will enhance the river environment for the neighbouring Riverside Housing Estate and provide habitat for frogs and other floodplain fauna.
