SUMMARY:Seniors Week - Slow Nature Walk at Killara
DESCRIPTION:Join naturalists Sue Brunskill and Karen Retra for a leisurely walk along the rail trail at the Kiewa River\, Killara. See the recent works here and how they improve this special space for both recreational visitors and the plants and animals that live here. We’ll discuss tools\, tips and resources for noticing\, identifying and recording what we find. The focus is much less on the ‘walk’ and much more on the ‘nature’. \nThis event is offered as part of the Seniors Celebration 2023 by your hosts Wodonga Urban Landcare Network and Parklands Albury Wodonga. \nWhere: Meet at the rail trail car park on Whytes Road – near the Middle Creek floodway.\nWe will walk along the rail trail beside Middle Creek\, over the Kiewa River and across the floodplain on the raised boardwalks.\nOur out-and-back route means we’ll likely walk between 3km and 4km in total\, on relatively flat terrain. \nGoogle map of the meeting place: https://goo.gl/maps/ceiMrajjEx… \nWhat to expect: We will be walking on natural\, unpaved and possibly uneven surfaces. The access provided by the rail trail board walks and trail over the flood plain is breath-taking for new and seasoned visitors alike.\nIf the river is in flood\, we may nominate an alternative meeting place. \nWhat to bring: Please dress for the conditions\, bring a hat\, water bottle and wear closed shoes. \nWeather watch: We’ll watch the weather and let everyone who is registered know if we need to postpone. \nRegistration prior to the event is essential for communication\, safety and insurance purposes.\nRegistrations open from 10am on Tuesday 12th September (as set by the Seniors Celebration organisers). Click here to register.\n \nFor any questions or alternative ways to reserve your place at this event: Please contact Karen Retra\, from Wodonga Landcare\, by calling 0428 629 099 or email karen@wodongalandcare.org.au
