SUMMARY:Black Willow ID and Control Demonstration Day
DESCRIPTION:Join Parklands Rangers for a wander along House Creek in Wodonga\, looking for black willow and learning how to control it. These demonstration days are part of our ‘Applying Technology to Tackle Invasive Pest Plants’ project and black willow is being targeted as it is one of the most invasive pests along our local creeks and rivers. \nBy continuing to remove these plants when they are in small numbers\, we can keep a handle on them and stop them from taking over our waterways. \nWhen: 9:00 am to 11:00 am (2 hrs). \nWhere: Park along Forrest Mars Ave. near House Creek. The terrain in this area will be a little rough\, so gumboots are advised. \nWhat is supplied: All tools and any specific safety equipment needed. \nWhat to bring: BYO drinking water. For your safety\, please wear covered shoes (preferably gumboots or other boots)\, long pants\, long sleeves\, and a hat. \nWho: You can contact Ranger Dan on 0417501352. \nPlease register here! Sometimes things change at the last minute and we need to be able to contact volunteers. \nThis project is financially supported by the Victorian Government’s Partnerships Against Pests Program.

SUMMARY:Great Southern BioBlitz 2025 - Bear's Hill Nature Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk to seek and make nature observations (of plants\, animals\, and fungi) to upload to iNaturalist and add some regional records to the Great Southern BioBlitz 2025. We’ll share tips for noticing nature\, how and why to record what you find\, and how to use the iNaturalist app to help confirm the ID and contribute to biodiversity knowledge. Bear’s Hill is an urban reserve that is home to many interesting plants\, animals\, and fungi so come along to see what we can find! Please be aware that we will be walking on gentle slopes\, on natural\, unpaved\, and possibly wet surfaces. \nWhen: 1:00 – 3:00 pm. \nWhere: Meet at the Bear’s Hill access gate on Donnington Drive. \nWhat to bring: Your mobile or other camera; dress for the weather and wear closed shoes\, long pants\, and sun protection. \nPlease register here! SUMMARY:Great Southern BioBlitz 2025 - Moth Night
DESCRIPTION:Experience the hidden nightlife of our local bushlands and contribute to community science during this unique evening of moth-watching and exploration! We’ll set up a moth sheet and special lighting to attract and observe a variety of moths and other nocturnal invertebrates in their natural habitat. Bring a torch\, dress warmly\, and don’t forget your camera or smartphone if you’d like to help document our discoveries. Please note\, this is a nighttime event and it will be dark. The moth sheet will be located a little way into the bushland\, so we’ll likely walk approximately 1-2 km during the event. Please also be aware that we will be walking on slopes\, on natural\, unpaved\, and possibly wet surfaces. \nYou can read about some of the moths we spotted last year in this article. \nWhen: 7:00 – 9:00 pm. \nWhere: Meet at the entrance to Castle Creek Conservation Reserve. \nWhat to bring: Your mobile or other camera; torch; dress for the weather (it may be cold). \nPlease register here! Places are limited. \nThis event is being run in partnership with Wodonga Urban Landcare.

SUMMARY:Great Southern BioBlitz 2025 - Urban Nature Spotting and Skills
DESCRIPTION:Nature isn’t only “in the bush” – in this session we’re noticing nature in an urban setting. Which plants\, animals and fungi are in our gardens and cities – not cultivated nor captive species but the “wild” ones? We aim to make observations of urban nature to get to know what’s here and to add records via iNaturalist as part of the Great Southern BioBlitz 2025. We’re excited to visit the patch of a new Wodonga Landcare group – the Friends of Elmwood – for this event. Come along to find out about the nature you see\, and optionally\, how the iNaturalist app can help you to identify or share what you’ve seen as a biodiversity record! \nThe pavilion has a covered roof but open sides and we’ll sit in there for some of the session. We’ll likely only wander a few hundred metres\, as we check for nature in the public spaces and garden. There is nearby parking and access is on paved\, generally flat\, surfaces suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. What to bring: optional\, \nWhen: 1:00 – 2:30 pm. \nWhere: Meet at the Pavilion in Elmwood Circuit. \nWhat to bring: Your mobile or other camera; dress for the weather including sun protection. \nPlease register here! Places are limited. \nThis event is being run in partnership with Wodonga Urban Landcare.
