SUMMARY:Monument Hill Community Stewardship Morning
DESCRIPTION:Join Parklands Rangers to help find and remove invasive lavender and woody weeds such as genista and false acacia in this beautiful reserve. \nThis is an opportunity to work alongside our Rangers experiencing the ‘how to’ of caring for our local bush.  No experience is necessary – our Rangers will help with weed identification and removal techniques. \nTake in the fresh air\, get close to nature\, and learn about the local environment and how Albury City and community groups are working to protect threatened species\, improve habitat\, and link habitat corridors across the region. \nWhen: 9:00 am to 11:00 am (2 hrs). \nWhere: Meet at the Monument Hill memorial carpark on Roper St. \nWhat is supplied: All tools and any specific safety equipment needed. \nWhat to bring: BYO drinking water. For your safety\, please wear covered shoes (preferably boots)\, long pants\, long sleeves\, and a hat. \nPlease register here!  Sometimes things change at the last minute and we need to be able to contact volunteers. \nThank you to Albury City Council for the financial support for this program.

SUMMARY:Banking on Trees Community Planting Morning
DESCRIPTION:The annual BankWAW planting morning is on again this winter.  Thank you to BankWAW who donates the cost of plants\, guards\, and stakes for each new bank account opened in the previous year. \nThis year efforts will contribute towards establishing much needed canopy cover between Ryans Lagoon North and Ryans Lagoon.  It will support Traditional Owner aspirations for this site and create a wildlife refuge for native fauna to help them adapt to the changing climate. \nWhen: 9:00 am to 11:00 am. \nWhere: Park on Trabants Rd.\, Bonegilla\, just off the junction of Snowdons Rd. and Ryans Rd. \nWhat to bring: Closed shoes and long pants as the ground might be muddy. Also please bring your own water.\n \nWhat will be provided:\n• All tools\, equipment\, materials\, and gloves (unless you want to bring your own gloves).\n• BBQ lunch will include sausages\, bread\, and sauce. Those with special dietary requirements\, please BYO. \nPlease register here!\n\nAbout this event: Did you know that every time an account is opened at BankWAW\, they plant a tree? \nTrees create endless amounts of good. They clean the air we breathe\, filter the water we drink\, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. \nPlanting a tree is also one of the easiest and cheapest ways to take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere to tackle the climate crisis. It’s also the easiest way that we\, as individuals\, can reduce our own footprint.

SUMMARY:Birding for Beginners and Avid Adventurers on Browns Island
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of birdwatching at our hidden gem\, Browns Island. This Murray River Island is located near Gateway Island between Albury and Wodonga. \nThe morning will feature an introduction to birding from BirdLife Australia’s Ben Humphries and a guided bird walk around some of Browns Island where 20-minute bird surveys will be conducted. These sightings will help guide our restoration efforts on Browns Island over the next three years of an Urban Rivers project\, and you will learn about local bird species\, habitat\, and conservation actions. \nWith low river levels\, we will likely be able to walk across to the Island through Wodonga Creek\, so you’ll need your gumboots! If you don’t have any\, Parklands can supply you with a pair. If river levels rise\, a Canadian canoe will be on hand to shuttle us across to the island. \nMorning tea will be provided between birding sites. \nWhen: Thursday 19 June\, 9 am to midday.\nWhere: Park off Bandiana Link\, Wodonga then walk 400 m to creek crossing site (see Birding Morning map).\nWhat: Easy grade walk around Browns Island.\nWhat to bring: Please wear walking boots or enclosed shoes and carry gumboots for the creek crossing. Consider the weather and please wear a hat and bring a jacket if cool. Bring drinking water and snacks. Bring binoculars if you have them. \nPlease register here so we know you’re coming and can contact you in case things change before the event! \nThis activity is kindly funded by the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust under the Urban Rivers and Catchments Program. \n
