Day 4 of the 20-day Challenge to ‘axe the ash’ along the High Country Rail Trail and our Albury Wodonga youths are certainly blitzing the woody weeds!

Thank you to students from Aspect Riverina School and Wodonga Middle Years School for their efforts tackling the uneven and rough country to demolish the significant population of ash trees between Havelock Street and Thomas Mitchell Drive. These invasive trees have spread significantly over the past four wet years and can out-compete native species when they form dense clusters.

Wodonga Middle Years School students Anthony Slatterly and Jayden Knight armed with their bow saws and lots of energy.

Thank you also to Mars Petcare staff who donned the gloves and bowsaws to remove invasive woody weeds along the Bandiana section of the rail trail.

Over the coming months you may occasionally see a row of removed woody weeds, which have been stockpiled for removal and mulching.

Thank you to Rotary Club of Albury for their financial support of this 20-day weed-removal challenge.
