Trail-Goers Grateful for Grading and Gravelling on Gateway Island

Trail-Goers Grateful for Grading and Gravelling on Gateway Island

Patronage of the High Country Rail Trail between the Murray River and Bandiana Link has been constant since the active railway line was relocated 15 years ago.

With thanks to a VicTrack Community Grant, this popular ‘tree top trail’ received a major uplift recently with local business Jacksons Earthmoving gravelling and grading the surface.  Walkers and bikers can now enjoy the scenic experience of traversing amongst the treetops, enjoying the many large river red gums on this raised embankment. And no longer need to worry about falling into one of the many potholes on what was previously a rough old track!

Barriers have been installed to prevent unauthorised vehicle access and protect the new gravel surface.

The completion of this upgrade means that walkers and cyclists can now circumnavigate Gateway Island along a 12 km loop of paved and gravel river trails.

Over the summer months, we will be tackling the box elder population along this corridor.  As always, we welcome community involvement in improving our river environment so keep an eye on our Events page for opportunities!

Thank you to VicTrack for their financial support.
