The lagoons are alive with the sound of WOMP’s….
That is, the sound of stakes being hammered into the ground with our custom-made ‘Weapons of Mass Plantation’ (thanks to the Wodonga Men’s Shed) was echoing off the big river red gums at our Ryans Lagoon planting site this past Sunday 3 August for BankWAW‘s Banking on Trees event. Around 45 dedicated volunteers of all ages enjoyed some beautiful winter sunshine and managed to get an impressive 1250 native seedlings planted in just two hours!

Well done to BankWAW for helping to rustle up some keen community members as well as bank staff to make the event a success. These plantings are part of our landscape-scale revegetation of the Ryans Lagoon Wetlands at Bonegilla, which will not only provide habitat for native animals but also contribute to tackling climate change by absorbing carbon from the atmosphere. We look forward to seeing what this site looks like in 20 years!
Thank you to BankWAW for donating the cost of plants, guards, and stakes.
