Community Spirit Going Strong Along the High Country Rail Trail

With a bit of dedication and hard work, a lot can be achieved! A huge THANK YOU geos out to the volunteers who have given up their weekends over the past couple of weeks to help repair and replace fencing along the High Country Rail Trail after the January 2026 bushfire that wreaked havoc in the Upper Murray.

The bridge at Waterfall Creek, Darbyshire was destroyed.

The High Country Rail Trail is full of history and holds a special place not only for those who live in the Upper Murray, but also for the many visitors the trail attracts each year. And while several historic timber trestle bridges were lost in the bushfires, the community spirit that helped to make the trail a great attraction is certainly not lost.

Our volunteers have been busy removing old fencing and replacing it, along with making repairs where needed. These fences will ensure that the trail is kept clear of stock and safe to traverse.

The fires also caused devastation to the surrounding landscape and it’s only through the hard work of the DEECA Forest Fires team and their efforts to remove hazardous trees that Parklands was able to get in and begin repair works, so a big thank you to them as well!
