Post Office Road, Sydney Road, the Great Southern Road, the Hume Highway, the Hume Freeway; the road linking Sydney and Melbourne was originally formed by the early overlanders in 1836. It ran through Thurgoona, Table Top and Bowna for nearly a century, until it was diverted to avoid the rising waters of Lake Hume.

This story is compiled from the works of celebrated local historians Howard Jones and Merrick Webb (dec.) and read by John Walker.
