Today we learnt that the Upper Murray bushfires are contained, but not quite extinguished. This is thanks to the mammoth efforts of DEECA Forest Fires, CFA volunteers, NSW Rural Fire Brigade volunteers, Hancock Plantations fire fighters, together with Canadian, Queensland, and New Zealand fire fighters. Upper Murray residents and all their helpers plus all the other emergency agencies and supporters have also sustained the fight for 28 days … What a marathon team effort! And now the long, hard slog to rebuild and recover begins. Who said Upper Murray people weren’t ultra-marathoners?!
The High Country Rail Trail is open from Wodonga to Granya Road, Bullioh. However, the High Country Rail Trail will remain closed east of Granya Road whilst hazardous trees are assessed (and removed if required) and 35 km of farm fences are repaired or replaced.
Please stay away as these half-burnt trees are potentially deadly.

Stay tuned for working bee dates (mainly weekends) when it is safe to enter this heavily treed corridor to get cracking with works that will enable us to reopen the rail trail.
