This morning, the Cumberoona Paddlesteamer was launched back into the Mighty Murray River after three years being perched on the banks of Wodonga Creek, a tributary of the Murray River on Gateway Island.  Restoration works have been undertaken to the paddle-steamer at a magnificent section of the proposed Gateway Island West nature trail, which is currently under development.

We congratulate Albury City Council on securing the paddle-steamer’s future through the sale to private operators, Robbie and Fraser Knowles of Yarrawonga.

The Cumberoona will operate as a tourist attraction for up to four months a year from Noreuil Park, when the river level allows, and would be replaced by another boat for the rest of the time.

In low season the Cumberoona would be sailed downstream to deeper water at Lake Mulwala and the Murray River section at Yarrawonga.
