  3. Major milestone for High Country Rail Trail

Article by Kerry Love, Tallangatta Rail Trail Advisory Group.

This year the Tallangatta Rail Trail Advisory Group – locally known as the TAG – celebrates the completed restoration of the trestle bridge over Dry Forest Creek, a project started in July 2015.

This milestone is a major achievement for the small group of dedicated volunteers. Over the past four years this group has spent many hours on the project, from milling timber to reconstructing the massive pylons and decking of the bridge.

The completion of the bridge allows another section of the trail to be used for the annual Tall Trestle Treadle event, scheduled for Sunday 13th October. This is an exciting development and group members are confident of a good turnout of people keen to experience the trail improvements.

Congratulations to the TAG volunteers on the completion of this major work. Parklands also extends particular thanks to Bruce & Bev Campbell, Scott & Kim Campbell, Ewan Carkeek, Doug Burt, TCM (Tallangatta Construction and Maintenance), Jon De Witt and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

If you are interested in joining the group or wish to be involved in the bridge restoration projects, the volunteers meet at 3.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month at the Goods Shed, Tallangatta.

Many thanks for financial support from the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project grant and the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund grant program.
