With the end of fire restrictions this week, an environmental burn of the sections of the High Country Rail Trail between Ebden Reserve and Huon Reserve is scheduled sometime in the next month.

The relatively quiet fire season has meant that new CFA volunteers haven’t had that many opportunities to build their skills and experience.  The bi-annual environmental burns along the Murray Valley Highway and High Country Rail Trail provide an environment to build these skills in a relatively controlled practical environment.

Parklands and the Bonegilla Rail Trail Advisory Group wish to thank the Country Fire Authority volunteers from Kiewa, Bonegilla, Baranduda and various other Wodonga brigades for the valued time and support, as well as the professional CFA staff who undertake considerable pre-burn planning and paperwork to ensure the environmental burn is safe and effective in managing future fuel loads.

Thank you  also to VicRoads for their contribution towards traffic control during the burn.  Parklands is pleased to be able to contribute by making sure the 50+ volunteers are fed and watered during the operation.
