The Bhutanese community garden beds promise a bumper crop this summer, having benefitted from the terrific growing season in our region.

Parklands Ranger Tilak Chhetri is ensuring the water is kept up to the growing melon and pumpkin plants, while the extensive tomato beds are leaping ahead. The harvest is earmarked for local sale, to bring some funds back in to the shared garden infrastructure.

COVID-19 and Border restrictions greatly reduced activity in the gardens this year, with Parklands unable to run volunteer programs. While the weeds have been able to take advantage, a very small dedicated crew have managed to plant many of the beds out with summer vegetables.

With weeks to go yet until harvest, Tilak has his fingers crossed that extreme hot weather holds off and the cockatoos leave well alone.
