The restoration of four local Murray River islands will provide physical, social and mental health benefits to young people in a new Rotary funded community project.

The project, Connecting Community to Murray River Islands, has been made possible by the generous support of the Rotary Club of Albury. The RCA Foundation will provide $10,000 towards the project in support of the expected community benefit of the restoration works.

Bidja Bila Island, Gateway Island, Browns Island and Grays Island provide the sites for the works, which will commence this month. The project will involve youths and marginalized community members, employing two staff as casuals to assist with delivery of restoration works.

Project volunteers will be working outdoors in the river bushland setting on environmental restoration works, particularly invasive weed removal. They will learn new skills, connect with nature and community and grow in confidence and self esteem, creating Murray River Islands to be proud of.

Many thanks to the Rotary Club of Albury for supporting this important project.
