Parkland’s recent spotlighting night walks have attracted many local families with young children, and what could be more exciting?

Ranger Danny Jones recently lead night walks on the Kiewa River and Gateway Island tracks, with more than 40 people attending.

In thick fog, the Gateway Island walk last night was particularly exciting. Possums scouting for food in the majestic redgums along the riverside trail were a highlight, and the children attending were up to the challenge of spotting them within the branches.

Ranger Danny enjoys being able to introduce children to the wonders of nature so close to home. “It’s not a professional expedition, it’s a fun way to learn about native wildlife. If the kid’s leave having seen something new, and knowing why it’s important to keep cats locked up at night, I’m happy.”

The next spotlighting night walk will be held on September 7th. Bookings can be made through our Eventbrite Listing.

This project has been gratefully funded through the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s Threatened Species Community Action Grant program.
