Congratulations to the Yackandandah community who have once again taken the initiative on environmental pollution, this time by ensuring plastics recycling is available, local and accessible.

Supported by Halve Waste, officially opened by Helen Haines and maintained by local volunteers, the Yack Recycle Hub is located at the Yack Station Precinct.  Community members can drop off a range of items that normally end up in landfill including toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes, sports shoes, razors, makeup packaging, dish and air-care products, and plastic bread tags.

All of these items are delivered to different locations for recycling, where raw materials can be extracted for reuse in a range of ways.

While the closing of REDcycle soft plastics recycling through Coles and Woolies in early November was very disappointing, community action such as this give us heart.  Well done Plasticwise Yackandandah on this excellent initiative, which keeps up the momentum on taking plastics out of landfill.
